Tax refund in Dubai (TAX-FREE):
Visitors and tourists in the UAE must pay VAT on their purchases while in the UAE, but tourists can refund the VAT when leaving the country through an electronic system that links all outlets in the UAE with all retail outlets and stores registered in the tourist VAT refund system.
What are the steps of the Tax-Free in Dubai?
- When shopping, ask the store to add the invoice to the VAT refund system. This is when a minimum of 250 AED is spent.
- Your passport is required because it will be scanned for use it in the payment system.
- A store employee will then add the tax exemption mark to the back of the invoice.
- A Tax Mark must be validated within 90 days of buying.
- Tourists should take goods attached to the tax mark to the Dubai International Airport Special points - Terminal 1, 2, 3. This must be done before you can check in on your flight.
- Goods may be checked and inspected.
- After the tax is validated, the tourist can choose how to recover the payments.
